Using a smart phone or tablet for your daily preschool photos?

Have you ever found yourself struggling to capture the best photos of your children with just a smartphone or tablet?

Well, you're not alone!

Today, I want to share a story inspired by Sue from Noah's Ark Preschool, who faced a similar challenge. She wanted to elevate the photos they were taking of the children for their socials, website, and parent portal, Tapestry.

Armed with only a smartphone or tablet, Sue and her team were determined to make the most of their resources.

Here are some tips we shared with Sue, and we believe they could be helpful for your preschool too:

Natural Lighting: Whenever possible, take photos in natural light. Position children near windows or outdoors to capture bright, flattering light that enhances their features.

Eye-Level Shots: Get down to the child's eye level to capture photos from their perspective. This creates a more intimate and engaging photograph.

Capture Candid Moments: Encourage children to play and interact naturally while you capture candid moments. These spontaneous shots often convey the most genuine emotions.

Keep it Simple: Avoid cluttered backgrounds and distractions. Choose clean, uncluttered backgrounds to keep the focus on the child.

Use Burst Mode: If using a smartphone, utilise burst mode to capture multiple shots in quick succession. This increases the chances of capturing the perfect moment.

Engage with the Children: Build rapport with the children to capture their genuine expressions. Engage with them through play and conversation to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Experiment with Angles: Don't be afraid to experiment with different angles and perspectives. Get creative and try shooting from above, below, or from the side for interesting and unique shots.

Edit with Care: Use editing apps or software to enhance your photos, but remember to keep it natural. Avoid excessive editing that alters the child's appearance.

While these tips can help you take better photos day to day around your setting, there's no substitute for a professional photography Photo Day.
